LTTSA - Mitten

I decided to go against the grain this month for the sew along. I didn't make the apron. Mainly cause Loo likely wouldn't wear it, also cause I have trouble justifying spending time sewing something that is meant to catch spills of food and paint. That's right, in all this sewing I have never once sewn a bib.

It's getting cold up here in Canada, which led to me the mitten section and that became my November project. The verdict is. I love this mitten pattern. I love the way the thumb is designed. Love that the mitten fits both Beri and Loo. Love the fact that it was such a quick project and Loo sat on my lap at the sewing machine for the first time and was pretty darn proud to announce to people that he made his mitten.

I put the elastic on the wrong side of the mitten instead of making the casing with bias tape over the mitten. This probably loses a few points in the comfortable factor, so I might follow the directions exactly next time. I'm also excited to make the matching hat.

Unfortunately he lost the other mitt at daycare a few days after we made them. Good thing I've got lots of extra fabric to make more. Any good ideas for attaching them? Maybe the good old string them through your coat with a piece of yarn method?

  1. Nice mitten! I love the green! Did you find a pattern for that or draft it yourself? I drafted and made some fleece mittens a few days ago for my little guy, they don't look as good as yours. They're nice and warm though. We had a ton of snow for Halloween, he's going to wear them for trick or treat ( was postponed until tomorrow night).

  2. The mittens look great! I agree, that the way the seam is done for the thumb is really nice. I'd probably go for the string method to keep the pair together.;)
